A man suspected of stealing a courier van was killed after crashing into a tree while fleeing police in Wielkopolska on Monday.
Fatal Accident in Greater Poland Region
The man was literally thrown from the vehicle during the crash.
Police Chase Ends in Tragedy
On Monday, January 19, around 2:30 PM in Kórnik (Greater Poland region), a Ford Transit delivery van belonging to a courier company was stolen. The theft was noticed by a municipal monitoring operator who alerted authorities. The suspect began fleeing towards Września.
“Local municipal services gave chase in their car. In the town of Miłosław, the driver of the Ford hit a tree. Despite resuscitation attempts, the man could not be saved,” reported Andrzej Borowiak from the Provincial Police Headquarters in Poznań.
Investigation Underway
Adam Wojciński from the Września District Police described the accident details. “The force of impact was so great that the man was literally thrown from the vehicle,” he said. “The man survived the initial collision with the tree, but after a few minutes, his heart stopped. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was performed, but unfortunately, it was not possible to restore vital functions, and death was confirmed.”
The authorities are currently investigating the circumstances of the accident.
