The District Court for Warsaw-Mokotów has convicted former football agent Cezary Kucharski of defaming attorney Tomasz Siemiątkowski, ordering him to pay significant fines and charitable contributions following a protracted legal dispute.
Verdict in the Dispute Between Kucharski and Siemiątkowski
The high-profile trial concerning former football agent Cezary Kucharski has concluded. After months of proceedings, the District Court for Warsaw-Mokotów issued a ruling in the case brought forward by Tomasz Siemiątkowski, the lawyer representing Robert Lewandowski.
Kucharski was found guilty of four out of six charges brought against him. As a result, the former agent must pay a 90,000 PLN fine and contribute 100,000 PLN to a charitable organization.
Background of the Conflict
Tensions between Robert Lewandowski and his former agent have persisted for years. This specific legal battle did not involve the footballer directly, but centered on his lawyer, Tomasz Siemiątkowski.
In various media interviews and social media posts, Kucharski labeled the attorney a member of an organized crime group and accused him of submitting falsified evidence to the court and maintaining illicit ties to government officials.
Court Rationale and Social Harm
The court determined that four of the six statements reviewed constituted defamation. The presiding judge noted that Kucharski was fully aware that his radical remarks could be considered defamatory but continued to make them in a firm and categorical manner.
The court’s justification emphasized that these statements were intended to lower the lawyer’s reputation in the eyes of the public. Furthermore, the court cited the high degree of social harm caused by these accusations.
Financial Penalties and Legal Recourse
Beyond the fines and the 100,000 PLN payment to the siepomaga.pl foundation, Kucharski is required to cover the costs of the proceedings. Neither Kucharski nor his legal representative were present for the verdict delivery.
The defendant has 14 days to file an appeal against the court’s decision.
