On 19 December, the District Court in Warsaw ruled that Marcin Romanowski’s European Arrest Warrant was lifted. The decision was announced by his lawyer, Bartosz Lewandowski, through a post on X.
Defender’s Statement
Lewandowski quoted Romanowski’s lawyer as saying the MP can travel freely across EU countries and is no longer pursued outside Poland. He added that Interpol had previously declined to issue a red notice.
The Polish Press Agency reported that the court’s decision was confirmed by criminal‑affairs spokesperson Anna Ptaszek of the Warsaw District Court.
Background of the Arrest Warrant
The warrant was issued on 18 December of the previous year by the prosecutor’s office. It allowed for Romanowski’s arrest in any EU state, where he was then residing in Hungary.
Justice Fund Investigation
Romanowski, former deputy minister of justice under PiS, faces 11 charges related to alleged irregularities in spending from the Justice Fund. He is accused of aiding an organized criminal group, manipulating contests, and embezzling over 100 million złoty.
