Minister Proposes Dual Leadership
Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz sent a letter to Poland 2050 members outlining proposals to resolve the party’s systemic crisis. She highlighted concerns about the current leadership’s term ending and suggested the National Congress, the highest decision-making body, decide the party’s future, including the invalidated second round of leadership elections.
Media reports indicate she proposed two co-leaders: herself and Paulina Hennig-Kloska, to prevent a potential split if either won new elections. Both were finalists in the annulled vote. Hennig-Kloska was reportedly supportive of this initiative, aimed at forming a “common front against Szymon Hołownia,” who has signaled a leadership bid requiring full election annulment.
Stormy National Council Meeting
The National Council meeting on January 16th failed to resolve the leadership election deadlock. Activists considered two scenarios: repeating only the second round or the entire process, potentially allowing new candidates. Only 7 of 11 agenda items were addressed, including the election of a National Electoral Commission member and a National Audit Commission member.
The meeting ended amid turmoil. Hołownia initially called for full election repetition and stated he would run if Pełczyńska-Nałęcz and Hennig-Kloska weren’t on the new board, threatening to leave otherwise. He abruptly logged off online after 11 PM, citing fatigue. Agnieszka Buczyńska took over, declared a recess, and also logged off, citing procedural standards. The Council will review election protests.
