Cyclist Rides with Rim Instead of Tire, Under the Influence

Police in Ostrołęka, Poland, stopped a cyclist on May 4, 2026, who was riding with a missing tire, against traffic, and while intoxicated.

Dangerous Ride Stopped by Police

Officers from the Ostrołęka traffic police, operating as part of the Mazovian SPEED Group, prevented a particularly dangerous bicycle ride and identified multiple safety violations.

The cyclist was found to be riding under the influence of alcohol, against the flow of traffic, and on a severely damaged bicycle lacking a front tire – riding directly on the rim.

Details of the Incident

The incident occurred on May 4, 2026, in Jawory Stare. Undercover officers observed the cyclist traveling on the wrong side of the road.

It quickly became apparent that the bicycle was in poor mechanical condition, and the cyclist’s manner of riding suggested possible intoxication. A breathalyzer test confirmed a blood alcohol content of nearly 0.5 per mille for the 61-year-old resident of the Ostrołęka district.

Fines Issued

The cyclist received a 1,000 złoty fine for riding under the influence of alcohol, as well as two additional fines for riding on the wrong side of the road and operating a bicycle in poor technical condition.

Road Safety Reminder

Every road user – whether driving a car or a bicycle – is responsible for their own safety and the safety of others. A malfunctioning bicycle and disregard for traffic laws can lead to tragedy.

An intoxicated cyclist poses a real threat not only to themselves but also to drivers and pedestrians. Alcohol significantly impairs reflexes, balance, and situational awareness, potentially leading to serious accidents.
