Cyclist Strikes Pedestrian in Warsaw City Center; Both Hospitalized

A cyclist and a pedestrian were both injured and taken to hospital after a collision on Tamka Street in central Warsaw at 4:17 PM.

Accident on Tamka Street

A serious accident involving a cyclist and a pedestrian occurred on Tamka Street in Śródmieście (Warsaw city center). Both men were injured and transported to a hospital, with police investigating the circumstances.

Details of the Incident

The incident took place at 4:17 PM. Preliminary findings and witness statements indicate that a 20-year-old Ukrainian citizen, working as a food delivery driver and riding a bicycle in a bike lane, was overtaking a passenger car that had stopped to yield to a pedestrian.

At that moment, the cyclist reportedly struck a man who was stepping off a marked pedestrian crossing without traffic lights. The force of the impact caused injuries to both the pedestrian and the cyclist, requiring their hospitalization.

Police Investigation and Response

Emergency medical services and two police crews were dispatched to the scene. Officers conducted procedural activities and determined the exact sequence of events, including the cyclist’s path and the behavior of all parties involved.

Recurring Safety Concerns on Tamka Street

This is the latest serious incident in the Tamka area, where heavy pedestrian, vehicular, and bicycle traffic intersect. The area around the Copernicus Science Centre metro station and Tamka Street has previously been identified as problematic for pedestrian-cyclist interactions, partly due to unclear traffic flow for some users.

In August 2025, a serious incident involving a pedestrian being struck occurred at ul. Tamka 34. Thursday’s accident again highlights the safety of vulnerable road users in this part of Śródmieście. The definitive causes and circumstances of the incident will be determined during the ongoing investigation.
