PiS announces premier candidate at March 7 Kraków convention; Czarnek predicts ratings boost despite poll deficits.
PiS Premier Announcement
PiS will reveal its prime minister candidate during the United Right convention in Kraków on Saturday, March 7, to launch the election campaign. Czarnek stated this “in some perspective” will improve party ratings, as the candidate chosen by Jarosław Kaczyński “will steer the locomotive of the great, fast train and will only go up.”
“Trio of Great Municipal Success”
When asked if his candidacy would be presented, Czarnek curtly replied, “Probably not.” Media reports list potential premier candidates including mayors Lucjusz Nadbereżny (Stalowa Wola), Jarosław Margielski (Otwock), and Jakub Banaszek (Chełm). Czarnek emphasized he doesn’t know who will ultimately be selected.
Czarnek enthusiastically praised Nadbereżny as “a man of great success in Stalowa Wola,” calling him young, eloquent in speeches, and knowledgeable about Poland’s reality. He characterized all three mayors as a “trio of great municipal success in large cities” with significant experience and political acumen, though questioning what they might offer Poland.
Czarnek on Morawiecki’s Conference
The day before PiS’s convention, former Prime Minister Morawiecki will host a “Powered by Poland” economic development conference. Czarnek found the timing surprising, noting PiS learned of its own convention just 2-3 days prior, suggesting Morawiecki’s event could have been scheduled later. He called the idea “strange and unnecessary, introducing confusion.”
