Following the death of MP Łukasz Litewka, Left party leader Włodzimierz Czarzasty sharply criticized President Karol Nawrocki’s remarks about the deceased politician.
Left Party Scales Back May Day Celebrations
The Left party’s planned May Day celebrations were scaled back this year following the tragic death of MP Łukasz Litewka. The party had planned an afternoon dance party at the Warsaw Mermaid statue, speeches by leaders, and numerous local events across the country.
Czarzasty Responds to Nawrocki’s Statements
During a press conference at the Ignacy Daszyński monument, Włodzimierz Czarzasty responded to questions about President Karol Nawrocki’s comments regarding the late MP. Nawrocki had stated that Litewka, despite being “forbidden from contacting the president,” sought common ground on issues important to both of them.
Czarzasty stated, “Łukasz Litewka deserves respect, and we as the Left, and people in Poland, have that respect. Do not play with death by talking about what, according to you, Łukasz Litewka said before his death. It is simply disgusting. Have some respect for this man and his achievements. I will not comment on his political words.”
Litewka Remembered as a Dedicated Humanitarian
MP Łukasz Litewka, 36, of Sosnowiec, died on April 23rd after being struck by a car while cycling in Dąbrowa Górnicza, Silesian Voivodeship. He was known for his extensive charitable and social work.
State Funeral Held for MP Litewka
A state funeral for Łukasz Litewka was held on Wednesday, attended by President Karol Nawrocki, Sejm Marshal Włodzimierz Czarzasty, and Prime Minister Donald Tusk. The President posthumously awarded Litewka the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.
Czarzasty described Litewka as a good man whose primary goal was to help people, stating that politics were secondary to him.
