Czarzasty Responds After US Ambassador Cuts Ties Over Trump Criticism

Polish Sejm Marshal Włodzimierz Czarzasty commented after US Ambassador Tom Rose severed diplomatic ties over his criticism of President Donald Trump.

Diplomatic Break

US Ambassador to Poland Tom Rose announced the termination of contacts with Marshal of the Sejm Włodzimierz Czarzasty. He explained that the reason for this decision are “offensive and unjustified slurs” against President Donald Trump. Rose emphasized this creates a serious obstacle in “excellent” relations between the US administration and Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s government.

“We will not allow anyone to damage Polish-American relations, or to insult Donald Trump, who has done so much for Poland and Poles,” Rose stated.

Czarzasty’s Position

The dispute began after Czarzasty announced he would not support nominating President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, stating he doesn’t deserve it. The Polish politician also criticized building new platforms like the Peace Council as “illusory,” arguing Poland should strengthen existing organizations such as the EU or NATO.

When asked by reporters in the Sejm about the situation, Czarzasty responded with a brief comment: “I will say only one sentence and don’t ask more: respect requires respect. That’s all I have to say in this matter.”

Political Reactions

Prime Minister Donald Tusk addressed the issue, stating: “Allies should respect each other, not lecture. At least that’s how we understand partnership in Poland.” The Minister of Justice assessed that the ambassador “lost his nerves,” and called for “Poland and all Poles to stand as a wall behind the Marshal of the Sejm.”

Former ambassadors, Democrats in Congress, and even some Republicans have criticized Rose’s position. In contrast, politicians from the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party and President Karol Nawrocki’s circle have attacked Czarzasty.
