Czarzasty Signs Regulation Banning Alcohol Sales in Sejm, Introduces New Travel Allowances

On November 19, Sejm Marshal Włodzimierz Czarzasty signed a regulation that bans alcohol sales inside parliament buildings and introduces a new kilometer allowance system for MPs, effective November 24 and January 1, 2026 respectively.

Alcohol Sales Banned Inside Parliament

Marshal Czarzasty announced the signing of Regulation No 7, which forbids alcohol sales within Sejm premises and effective from November 24. He explained the delay, citing the need to relocate rooms used by the restaurant and update all signage. He emphasized the importance of a clear example from the parliament, recalling pending bills from Polski 2050 and Nowa Lewica that also address alcohol sales.

New Monthly Kilometer Allowance for MPs

The regulation will be officially signed shortly and will start on January 1, 2026. Czarzasty noted that the one–and‑a‑half‑month period is needed to discuss the allowance with representatives from every parliamentary club. The rule aims to prevent MPs from spending more than 3,000 PLN monthly on travel costs and to provide transparent justification for such expenditures.

Czarzasty Elected New Sejm Marshal

On November 18, 447 MPs voted to elect the new marshal; Czarzasty received 236 votes, 209 opposed, and two abstentions. He succeeded Szymon Hołownia, who resigned per the coalitional agreement. Opposition came from Razem, PiS, and Konfederacja, with abstentions recorded by Sławomir Ćwik (Polski 2050) and Michał Kołodziejczak (KO). Protest chants asking for an end to communist influence echoed during the session.
