A terrorist attack struck a Czech factory producing arms equipment in Pardubice on March 20th, with The Earthquake Faction claiming responsibility.
Terrorist Attack Confirmed
A terrorist attack occurred in the Czech Republic, targeting a factory producing arms equipment. The Earthquake Faction claimed responsibility for the fire at facilities belonging to LPP Holding and Israel’s Elbit Systems in Pardubice.
Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš and Interior Minister Lubomír Metnar confirmed the terrorist attack. The incident occurred on March 20th, with fire engulfing buildings belonging to LPP Holding and its affiliate, Elbit Systems.
No Casualties Reported, Investigation Underway
Facilities used in industrial activities related to the defense sector were destroyed. Fortunately, no one was inside the buildings at the time of the incident, preventing casualties, though the severity of the situation remains high.
Prime Minister Babiš indicated a deliberate act is being considered, while Minister Metnar stated all available data is being analyzed, with terrorism being one hypothesis. The scale of the damage and the nature of the facility initially raised suspicions that the fire was not accidental.
The Earthquake Faction Claims Responsibility
The Earthquake Faction, identifying as an international underground network targeting entities supporting Israel, claimed responsibility for the arson. In a published statement, the group stated the attack targeted a “key Israeli weapons production center” in Central Europe.
The organization stated the action was deliberately carried out in an empty facility to avoid casualties. They also warned of potential further actions if cooperation between defense companies and Israel continues.
Connection to Middle East Conflict
The group’s statement referenced the situation in the Middle East, emphasizing their actions are a response to Israeli military operations. They asserted that attacks on industrial infrastructure would continue “as long as the earth bleeds under Israeli bombs.”
LPP Holding and Elbit Systems Partnership
The targeted facility’s significance stems from its role in the cooperation between LPP Holding and Elbit Systems. In October 2023, the companies announced a strategic partnership and the creation of a joint center, termed the “Center of Excellence.”
This center was intended to be a key element of both entities’ operations in Central Europe. Elbit Systems CEO Yoram Shmuely viewed the collaboration as a significant step in developing technological and military projects.
Czech Government Funding and UAV/UGV Development
LPP Holding representatives anticipated the development of specific products for both the Israeli army and European customers. Radim Petráš, co-founder and commercial director of LPP, indicated preparations were underway for projects in the Czech Republic intended to supply systems used by the Israeli armed forces.
Financial data from LPP Holding’s subsidiary, L.P.P. s.r.o., reveals that projects related to the development of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) were co-financed by the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade. This indicates the Pardubice facility’s activities were both commercial and publicly funded.
Growing Threats to Defense Industry
Experts note that infrastructure related to drone and autonomous systems development is increasingly becoming a target for sabotage, particularly amid global political tensions. The attack in Pardubice is part of a broader context of rising tensions related to the conflict in the Gaza Strip.
Radical organizations are increasingly extending operations beyond the Middle East, targeting entities linked to the Israeli defense industry. In recent years, Europe has seen incidents targeting companies cooperating with Israel, ranging from cyberattacks to vandalism and arson attempts. Security services emphasize that industrial infrastructure related to the military sector is becoming a potential target for ideologically motivated actions.
