Czech Premier Bought Expensive Globe to Find Greenland

Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš purchased a 15,000 korona globe to locate Greenland amid geopolitical tensions.

Czech Premier Bought Globe to Find Greenland. Shows “Very Plastically”

In the face of geopolitical tensions around Greenland, Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš bought a proven geography learning tool: “I bought a globe for 15,000 koronas, so I can know exactly where Greenland is,” he told journalists. In conversion, this is over 600 euros. On social media, the 71-year-old politician faced many malicious comments. “He doesn’t even have basic knowledge from school,” criticized one internet user.

Babiš later published a video explaining the situation. “Some people laugh at me because they have a different brain than me,” he said with self-irony. However, as he explained, on a regular world map Greenland appears larger than it actually is. He added that only on a globe can one see the real proportions of surface area between Greenland and the United States or Europe. Moreover, in his opinion, it shows “very plastically” how close Greenland is to Russia and how Russian rockets can fly over the North Pole to North America.

Hope for an Agreement

Andrej Babiš, a self-proclaimed fan of US President Donald Trump, did not take a clear position on the US threat to Greenland. On the one hand, he emphasized that Greenland “of course” belongs to the Kingdom of Denmark. On the other hand, he called on Denmark and the US to resolve the dispute diplomatically. “I hope everything ends well and allies reach an agreement,” said Babiš. The billionaire and founder of the right-wing populist party ANO has been head of government for the third time since December.
