Częstochowa Mayor Krzysztof M. faces corruption charges as new witnesses come forward after his arrest.
Arrest and Detention
Officials from the Central Anticorruption Bureau detained the President of Częstochowa on Wednesday, February 25. The prosecutor’s office filed a request with the court for a three-month arrest for Krzysztof M. due to concerns about tampering with evidence and the threat of a high sentence.
New Witnesses Emerge
Unofficially, the prosecutor’s office is interrogating new witnesses. According to journalists Maciej Duda and Łukasz Ruciński from TVN24’s “Superwizjer,” new witnesses have begun coming forward to the Śląskie Department of Organized Crime of the National Prosecutor’s Office after Krzysztof M.’s detention.
Corruption Charges Detailed
One charge against Krzysztof M. covers the period 2018-2022, alleging he accepted a financial benefit of at least 40,000 zlotys. In exchange, he allegedly introduced budget changes that allowed a public procurement to benefit a specific entrepreneur. The second charge concerns accepting financial benefits from multiple people between September 2020 and October 2025, totaling at least 129,000 zlotys in bribes.
Broader Investigation
Currently, 18 suspects face 34 charges in this case, including accepting and providing financial benefits to public officials and money laundering from criminal activities.
Who is Krzysztof M.?
Krzysztof M. has been President of Częstochowa since 2010. From 2007-2010, he served as a Member of Parliament from the Democratic Left Alliance. He is currently a member of The Left party. Party Chairman Włodzimierz Czarzasty has suspended Krzysztof M. from party rights pending resolution of the case.
