The finalists for the 2026 Darius Fikus Award have been selected from over 100 nominations, with “Gazeta Wyborcza” receiving multiple recognitions.
Finalists Selected From Over 100 Nominations
The judging panel has chosen the finalists from more than 100 nominations. The highest number of votes were received by the publication “Narkobiznes: z Telegrama do paczkomatu” (Drug Business: From Telegram to Parcel Locker), Agnieszka Jucewicz’s journalistic essay “Jesteśmy zmęczeni” (We Are Tired), and Michał Szczęcha’s reportage “Serce matki pęka długo” (A Mother’s Heart Breaks for a Long Time).
“Wyborcza” Receives Two Nominations
The strong presence of journalists from “Gazeta Wyborcza” is particularly noteworthy. Agnieszka Jucewicz is a finalist for her essay “Jesteśmy zmęczeni,” published in “Wyborcza.” A second recognition for the editorial team relates to the publication “Narkobiznes: z Telegrama do paczkomatu,” co-authored by Michał Żyłowski from “Gazeta Wyborcza.”
Investigative Journalism and Personal Essays Recognized
The nominated material “Narkobiznes: z Telegrama do paczkomatu” was prepared by an entire team of authors, including Michał Żyłowski, Daniel Flis, Anastasiia Morozova, Alicja Pawłowska, and Radosław Łukasik from FRONTSTORY, Mateusz Kapera from Radio ZET, Maria Pankowska from OKO.press, Dominik Szczepański from “Newsweek Polska,” and Karolina Wysota from Money.pl.
Diverse Range of Forms Among Finalists
This year’s list of finalists represents a wide range of forms. Alongside the collaborative investigation, Agnieszka Jucewicz’s personal essay and Michał Szczęcha’s reportage “Serce matki pęka długo,” published in “Piśmie,” have also been selected as finalists.
Winners to be Announced April 21st
The winner(s) of this year’s Darius Fikus Award have already been selected from the announced finalists, but their names remain confidential. According to the organizers, only lawyer Jacek Stefański, the custodian of the judging panel’s decision, knows the verdict. The results will be announced and the award presented during the Press Club Polska Awards Gala on April 21st in Warsaw. Press Club Polska is the organizer of the award.
