Dengue Alert in Kraków as Doctors Warn Symptoms Require Immediate Consultation

Kraków hospital reports two teenagers diagnosed with dengue after tropical travel, emphasizing fever demands urgent medical attention.

Hospital Announcement

On Monday, February 16, Kraków’s St. John Paul II Specialist Hospital reported two teenage patients sought medical help for fever. Subsequent travel history to tropical regions led to a dengue diagnosis through clinical vigilance and rapid testing. Both patients were admitted to the Pediatric Infectious Diseases and Hepatology Department.

Symptoms and Prevention

Dengue is an acute viral disease prevalent in Asia, Africa, and Central/South America, transmitted by mosquito bites. Symptoms include high fever, headaches, muscle/joint pain, rash, vomiting, and weakness. Recovered patients remain susceptible to reinfection, with subsequent infections carrying a higher risk of severe dengue (hemorrhagic).

Prevention focuses on mosquito bite avoidance using repellents and protective clothing. The hospital stressed: “Any fever following tropical travel necessitates immediate medical consultation.”
