Denmark has set up a 24‑hour “night watch” at its Foreign Ministry to monitor Donald Trump’s statements, starting nightly 17:00 local time, the Guardian reports.
Security Detail of the Night Watch
The Danish government has created a “night watch” within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to observe Donald Trump’s remarks and actions. Night shifts begin daily at 17:00 local time and end with a report prepared at 07:00 in the morning. The report summarizes spoken and written content and is forwarded to government representatives and relevant ministries.
Triggering Trump’s Greenland Ambitions
The initiative was prompted by Trump’s repeated claims that Greenland should be annexed by the United States. The Ministry stated that the “joint effort” was necessary to keep abreast of the U.S. president’s moves, noting that the time difference between Denmark and the United States made continuous monitoring essential.
Trump’s Stated Intent for Greenland
In March, the U.S. president said he was “not ruling out” the use of military force to integrate Greenland into the United States, emphasizing that the island was needed for national and international security. He added that Chinese and Russian naval presence around Greenland necessitated U.S. involvement, and that Denmark would need to allow the move to secure global interests.
