Incident at Gostynin PKP Station
On Thursday, December 25, near the PKP station in Gostynin, a liquid sulfur tanker with a damaged tank released thick smoke and vapors, prompting firefighters, police, and a specialist chemical team to secure the area.
Emergency Units Responded
The call came at approximately 8:20 a.m. and units from the State and Volunteer Fire Departments as well as a chemical group from Płock were dispatched to assess the scale of the threat and determine ways to limit and neutralize emissions.
Road Closures
Traffic was blocked as a result of the operations. Słowackiego and Kolejowa streets were closed from Czapskiego street toward the stadium. The action zone is fenced off and access for outsiders is restricted.
Air Monitoring & Cause Investigation
Firefighters are measuring and monitoring the air, and verifying whether the smoke is caused by burning, leakage, or a chemical reaction occurring with the damaged tanker. If sulfur burns, irritating gases such as sulfur dioxide can be produced, so it is vital to quickly determine the type of emission and its potential impact on the surroundings.
Industrial Use of Liquid Sulfur
Liquid sulfur is an industrial raw material used, among other things, for producing sulfuric acid. Because of its properties and the possibility of hazardous vapors, efforts focus on securing the site, limiting the spread of emissions, and assessing the tanker’s technical condition.
Public Advisory
Authorities urge motorists to avoid the Gostynin railway station area until operations are finished and full traffic flow is restored.
