Dispute Over Internship Pay Rates. No Agreement on Ministry’s Proposal

Polish ministry and business ombudsman clash over proposed minimum internship pay rates.

Ministry Proposal

According to the proposal by the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy, the amount of financial compensation for an intern could not be lower than 35% of the average wage in the national economy. In practice, this would mean approximately 3136 zł gross.

Business Ombudsman’s Counter-Proposal

The Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Ombudsman’s proposal is more than twice lower and amounts to 1345 zł gross. The Ombudsman emphasizes that excessively high mandatory rates could be an excessive burden for the smallest entrepreneurs, especially in weaker economically regions of the country.
