President Donald Trump announced on Thursday, November 27 that Sarah Beckstrom of West Virginia had died after being shot during an armed assault near the White House on Wednesday, November 26. Trump expressed that she was “very respected, young, wonderful person” who had “just passed away.”

West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey praised Beckstrom, saying she served with “courage, extraordinary determination and unwavering sense of duty,” and that she answered the call to serve “with strength and character that define the best of the West Virginia National Guard.”
The Attack
According to BBC reports, Beckstrom was on patrol with partner Andrew Wolfe, 24, when they were shot by a 29‑year‑old Afghan national. Wolfe was also wounded and “is fighting for his life.”
Military Career
Beckstrom joined the Army on 26 June 2023. She was assigned to Company 863 of the Military Police, 111th Engineer Brigade of the West Virginia National Guard. She volunteered for duty on 26 November and was deployed to patrol duty by Trump’s order to combat crime in the capital.
