Donald Trump will deliver his State of the Union address on Tuesday night in Washington, with guests including Jeffrey Epstein accusers.
State of the Union Tradition
The State of the Union is the president’s most important annual address. Donald Trump will deliver it on Tuesday at 9 PM Washington time, which corresponds to 3:00 AM Wednesday in Poland. Gazeta.pl will provide live coverage led by journalist Wiktoria Beczek.
It is tradition for the president and members of Congress to invite special guests whose stories illustrate key political disputes. This year, Democratic politicians invited individuals linked to the Jeffrey Epstein case, including a woman who accused him of sexual abuse and relatives of Virginia Giuffre, who died last year. Democrats aim to highlight that the case remains unresolved and the Trump administration has not released millions of documents.
Guest Lists Reflect Political Divides
Among the attendees will be a Wisconsin farmer representing soy producers concerned about the effects of Trump’s tariffs and the mother of a student detained by authorities. Republicans invited the family of a Louisiana police officer killed in the line of duty, emphasizing public safety. The White House also attempted to invite the U.S. women’s Olympic hockey team as a symbol of national unity, but the team, which Trump had disparaged by congratulating only the men’s team, declined the invitation.
Trump Promises Long Speech
According to the White House, the address will showcase the administration’s successes and outline future directions. Trump warned against expecting a short speech, stating: “Our country is doing great, the economy is booming. This will be a long speech because I have so much to say.”
Polling Shows Declining Support
Meanwhile, Trump faces challenges beyond just opposition from Democrats. His approval ratings have dropped significantly in recent months. A late January NPR/PBS News/Marist poll found that 55% of Americans believe the country is headed in the wrong direction under his leadership. A Washington Post/ABC poll showed his approval at 39%, while a CNN poll recorded only 36%. The surveys indicate a loss of support among independent voters.
