Donald Tusk Urges U.S. to See Europe as Ally, Not Problem

Former Polish prime minister Donald Tusk addressed Americans on December 6, declaring Europe an ally, while the U.S. unveiled a new National Security Strategy critiquing Europe and outlining diplomatic priorities.

Tusk’s Call to America

On Saturday, December 6, Donald Tusk published a post in English. In it he wrote: “Dear American friends, Europe is your nearest ally, not your problem. We have shared enemies. For the past 80 years this has been true. We must stick to it; it is the only sensible strategy for our shared security, unless circumstances change.”

U.S. New National Security Strategy

The White House released a new National Security Strategy on Friday, December 5, outlining U.S. foreign policy priorities. It notes that the era when the United States maintained the world order like Atlas has ended. The strategy also accuses the European Union and similar organisations of undermining political freedom and sovereignty, and claims their migration policies transform the continent and spur conflicts.

Allegations against Europe

The document lists charges such as censorship of free speech, suppression of political opposition, declining birth rates, and loss of national identities.

Europe‑Russia Relations in the Strategy

The strategy includes a section on Europe’s relations with Russia, stating that the war in Ukraine has weakened ties and that many Europeans view Russia as a threat. It proposes increased U.S. diplomatic engagement to restore strategic stability in Eurasia and reduce conflict risks.
