Dorian S. to Serve Life Sentence for Rape and Murder of 25‑Year‑Old Liza; Court Upholds Judgment

The Warsaw Court of Appeals upheld a life sentence for Dorian S., who was convicted of raping and murdering 25‑year‑old Liza in Warsaw on 25 February 2024.

Court Upholds Life Sentence

The Court of Appeals in Warsaw has retained the life imprisonment sentence imposed on Dorian S. for the rape and murder of 25‑year‑old Liza. The verdict remains final and includes the possibility of rehabilitation under a therapeutic regime.

Crime Details and Investigation

The crime occurred on 25 February 2024 at the entrance of a townhouse on Żurawiej Street in central Warsaw. A security guard found the woman, a 25‑year‑old Belarusian national, naked and unconscious. She was taken to a hospital in critical condition and died on 1 March. Police arrested the then‑23‑year‑old Dorian S. on the same day; investigators determined he raped the victim, committed robbery, and stole her phones and payment cards.

Initial Judgment and Compensation

The first instance verdict, rendered on 17 January 2025 by the District Court in Warsaw, imposed a life sentence under a therapeutic system and ordered 200 000 zł in compensation to the victim’s partner. The judge stressed that the focus should remain on Liza’s harm and memory, not on the perpetrator.

Appeal Proceedings

Defendants appealed the judgment, citing the defendant’s sanity, the alleged rapidity of proceedings, and procedural issues regarding the sentencing panel. During the appeal, partial secrecy was granted, and on 4 November 2025 the appeals court upheld the life sentence.

Court Confirms Verdict

The Court of Appeals rejected the defense’s appeal, affirming the lower court’s decision. Judge Maciej Gruszczyński noted that the case was handled correctly both procedurally and materially, and that the defense’s arguments did not alter the overall picture of the crime and the defendant’s guilt. Thus, the judgment is final.
