Dozens Injured in Slovak Train Collision

Dozens were injured when a regional train bound for Bratislava collided with a fast passenger train near Pezinok, Slovakia, on Monday, officials said.

Slovak media reported that, shortly after departing Pezinok station, a regional train collided with a fast passenger train moving in the same direction.

Slovak Railways denied that a head‑on collision took place, stating that no derailments occurred. The cause remains unknown.

Interior and Transport Ministers rushed to the scene, where dozens were reported injured and no fatalities were announced.

Earlier Eastern Slovak Collision

Weeks earlier, a head‑on collision on the eastern Slovak line injured nearly 70 people but left no deaths. The incident was attributed to a driver error.

Official Statements

Accident involved trains Tatran 620, scheduled to reach Bratislava at 19:33, and Rex 1814, due from Bratislava to Nitra at 19:36.

One train was found at an illegal location, allegedly running through a red light and departing a stop where it should not have. The express train collided from behind at speeds exceeding 100 km/h.

Chief of the Slovak Railway, Ivan Bednarik, explained the situation and cited lack of conclusive investigation findings.

Government Response

A special government meeting was convened on Monday to address the Sunday train disaster.
