Capitol Police arrested peaceful religious leaders in Washington D.C. on January 30 during a protest against ICE funding.
Arrests of Religious Leaders in USA
The non-profit organization Faith in Action reported that on Friday, January 30, “Capitol Police arrested dozens of peaceful religious leaders.” They were protesting against Donald Trump’s immigration policy and funding for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency.
“Funding an organization that inflicts harm, persecution, and kills is unacceptable,” the organization wrote.
Group of Officers Around Singing Activists
The Kairos Center organization published a video showing numerous officers circling singing activists. At one point, some of them tried to raise a banner with the text “abolish ICE, dissolve DHS (Department of Homeland Security – ed.)”.
However, the officers took away their banner and other props. Subsequently, an officer twisted one of the activists’ arms behind her back.
Police Revealed Reason for Intervention
According to Reuters agency reports, a spokesperson for the United States Capitol Police stated that demonstrations in congressional buildings “are illegal.” In connection with this, 54 demonstrators were arrested.
Let us recall that protests against Donald Trump’s immigration policy erupted after federal agencies shot two citizens in Minnesota.
