Driver Arrested After Drug Test Positive Following Warsaw Bridge Crash

A delivery van crashed on Gdański Bridge in Warsaw late April 8th/early April 9th, resulting in one passenger hospitalized and the driver’s arrest after testing positive for methamphetamine.

Bridge Crash and Initial Response

A serious traffic incident involving a Toyota Proace delivery van occurred on Gdański Bridge in Warsaw in the night of April 8th to 9th. City guards discovered the van had collided with barriers separating the roadway from the sidewalk around 2:50 AM on April 9th, approximately 200 meters before the Starzyńskiego Roundabout.

Passenger Injuries and Condition

Two men, approximately 19-20 years old, were inside the vehicle. The driver was outside, reportedly in a state of strong emotional arousal, indicating stress and shock. One passenger sustained facial injuries, including a damaged nose and right eyebrow arch. He was initially conscious and communicative but then suffered a seizure and lost consciousness.

Medical Assistance and Transport

City guards immediately alerted emergency services and secured the injured passenger with a thermal blanket, monitoring his condition until paramedics arrived. The passenger was transported to the hospital around 3:15 AM with suspected concussion and possible drug poisoning.

Driver’s Account and Drug Test

The driver stated he fell asleep at the wheel while returning from an event. Initial observations suggested possible prior drug use by those involved. A breathalyzer test showed 0.00 mg/l of alcohol in his system. A subsequent drug test was positive for methamphetamine.

Arrest and Ongoing Investigation

The driver, previously detained by city guards, was arrested by police for driving under the influence of drugs. Further investigation is being conducted at the police station. Police, ambulance and fire services arrived on scene to assist.
