Driver Assaults Officer, Flees Checkpoint While Drunk

A 36-year-old driver assaulted a police officer, fled a checkpoint while drunk, and crashed near Mińsk Mazowiecki, leading to his arrest.

Resisting Police Control

Police in Mińsk Mazowiecki signaled a Seat driver to stop for a roadside check in Borówek. Despite lights and sirens, the 36-year-old man accelerated violently, attempting to flee. During the escape, he ignored traffic rules and officers’ commands, creating a real hazard to other road users.

He lost control of the vehicle, veering into a ditch, but continued driving. An officer tried to disable the car by removing the keys from the ignition. The man then abruptly reversed the vehicle towards the officer, forcing him onto the hood to avoid being struck.

Assault on Officer

The driver’s actions constituted active assault on a police officer. The officer sustained no injuries, and the aggressive driver was subdued and detained.

Tests revealed over 2.0 promile of alcohol in his breath. Additionally, the 36-year-old lacked a valid driver’s license. He was taken to a police cell.

Legal Consequences

At the police request, a prosecutor sought a 3-month pre-trial detention order, which the court granted. The man faces charges for resisting control, drunk driving, driving without a license, and assaulting an officer, carrying a potential prison sentence up to 10 years.

Police emphasize that fleeing checkpoints and assaulting officers trigger immediate responses, noting that intoxicated drivers pose a major road safety threat.
