A 57-year-old man has been charged following a traffic accident in Dąbrowa Górnicza that resulted in the death of Polish MP Łukasz Litewka on Thursday afternoon.
Charges Filed Against Driver
The 57-year-old man is currently charged with causing a traffic accident resulting in death, a crime punishable by six months to eight years of imprisonment.
Investigation and Medical Examination
The Sosnowiec District Prosecutor’s Office reported that the detained man underwent extensive medical examinations for a significant portion of the day.
The prosecutor’s spokesperson, Bartosz Kilian, stated that the suspect’s questioning was suspended as he reviews the case materials with his lawyer.
Temporary Arrest Considered
The prosecutor’s office is leaning towards filing a motion for a temporary arrest of the suspect, according to Kilian.
Details of the Incident
Łukasz Litewka, a 36-year-old MP from the Left party and a well-known charity organizer, was fatally struck by a car while cycling on Kazimierzowska Street in Dąbrowa Górnicza.
