Driver Detained in Investigation of MP Łukasz Litewka’s Death

The driver involved in the fatal collision with MP Łukasz Litewka has been taken into custody as investigators explore potential causes, including driver impairment.

Investigation into the Death of Łukasz Litewka

Activities involving the detained driver delayed ongoing medical examinations. Before questioning, investigators sought to determine if the accident could have been caused by fainting or falling asleep at the wheel.

“We are trying to identify all processes that may have occurred or are still occurring in this person’s body that could affect his perception, his state of attention and concentration. We feel obliged to obtain this medical data,” said Bartosz Kilian, spokesperson for the Sosnowiec District Prosecutor’s Office, to PAP.

Autopsy Results Released

The death of MP Łukasz Litewka is under investigation following a tragic bicycle accident on Thursday afternoon.

Cause of Death Confirmed

The cause of death was a leg injury, disruption of key arteries, and consequently, bleeding which was the direct cause of death, stated prosecutor Kilian.

MP Łukasz Litewka Dies in Collision

The fatal accident occurred on Thursday around 1:00 PM. Preliminary police findings suggest the 57-year-old driver of a Mitsubishi Colt likely fell asleep or lost consciousness, veering into oncoming traffic and colliding with MP Litewka, who was riding a bicycle. Łukasz Litewka died despite resuscitation efforts. The Mitsubishi driver was detained.

Łukasz Litewka’s Charitable Work

Łukasz Litewka was known for his charitable and social activities. His #TeamLitewka foundation publicized and supported the treatment of children and animal rescue, responding to difficult situations in the local community by collecting funds for rehabilitation equipment or aid for accident victims.

Animal Welfare Advocacy During Campaign

During the 2023 parliamentary election campaign, Łukasz Litewka featured images of dogs awaiting adoption from a local shelter on his campaign posters, including their names and contact information. After the campaign, Litewka’s banners were used as insulation material for the shelter’s kennels.
