Driver Distracted by Wife’s Birthday Gift Crashes into Barriers on Poniatowski Bridge

A Ukrainian citizen driving an Audi on Warsaw’s Poniatowski Bridge collided with concrete barriers while contemplating a birthday gift for his wife, causing traffic disruption.

Collision on Poniatowski Bridge

A serious-looking collision occurred on the Poniatowski Bridge, near the exit to Wisłostrada, involving a passenger car, an Audi. The driver, a Ukrainian citizen, hit temporary concrete barriers set up in the road work area.

Initial findings indicate the man became preoccupied with choosing a birthday present for his wife while driving, losing concentration and crashing into the concrete safety barriers.

No Injuries, Fine Issued

Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. The driver was confirmed to be sober.

The man was issued a criminal fine of 1500 Polish złoty for causing the collision and received 10 penalty points on his driving record.

Traffic Disruptions and Bus Route Changes

Traffic was disrupted during the operation, with passage towards the city center blocked.

WTP (Warsaw Transport Company) reports: Due to the blocked passage near the Most Poniatowskiego 02 bus stop, lines 111, 117, 158, 507, and 521 are experiencing disruptions.

Lines may be diverted via Al.Poniatowskiego: Wybrzeże Szczecińskie – Most Świętokrzyski – Zajęcza – Tamka – to Nowy Świat and then continue on their regular routes.

The Most Poniatowskiego 02, PKP Powiśle 02, and Muzeum Narodowe 02 bus stops are temporarily suspended. Possible delays to bus schedules are expected.
