On September 25, a 41‑year‑old driver fled through an opened emergency lane, crashed into a police car and a passing vehicle, and was apprehended by officers and an assisting retired policeman.
Escape Begins in Emergency Lane
Police were dispatched on Thursday, 25 September, after a report of a car colliding with a roe deer. The officers activated their lights and siren, and drivers set aside a life‑corridor as required. One driver, steering a Ford, suddenly accelerated, attempted to flee the on‑coming police vehicle, lost control, and collided with the police car and a car coming from the opposite direction before abandoning the vehicle and attempting to escape on foot.
Chase and Unexpected Assistance
Immediately after the collision, the responding officer pursued the fugitive. He was aided by a retired policeman riding his private car just behind the police vehicle. Upon witnessing the incident, the retired officer joined the operation, and together with the uniformed officer apprehended the suspect, according to young officer Żaneta Kumoś of the County Police Command in Żar. The 41‑year‑old later explained that he fled because he believed he was subject to a lifetime driving ban.
Evidence of Illegal Driving
Investigation revealed the driver was under the influence of drugs. Police found narcotics in his possession, and he had no valid driver’s licence. Moreover, the licence plates on the Ford were registered to a different vehicle in the police system. All evidence points to the driver’s culpability for the incident.
Legal Consequences
The 41‑year‑old was arrested and will face court proceedings for his actions.
