A 45-year-old driver with 2.7 permille alcohol hit an 18-year-old pedestrian at a Żyrardów crosswalk and fled before being apprehended by police.
Hit-and-Run Incident
A 45-year-old man driving a Nissan hit a pedestrian at a crosswalk on Jaktorowska Street in Żyrardów on Thursday (January 15) around 8:00 PM. The driver fled the scene without providing assistance to the injured person.
The victim was identified as an 18-year-old Ukrainian woman who suffered bodily injuries and was transported to the hospital for further diagnosis and treatment.
Witness Intervention and Arrest
Thanks to the reaction of witnesses, the man was apprehended and handed over to police officers. An alcohol test revealed the resident of Żyrardów had 2.7 permille of alcohol in his system, indicating a state of intoxication.
Legal Consequences
Police determined the man committed multiple offenses, including failing to assist an accident victim, causing an accident while intoxicated, and using a mobile phone while driving. He received 57 penalty points, and officers confiscated his driver’s license and vehicle registration certificate.
For causing a traffic accident while intoxicated and leaving the scene, the 45-year-old faces potential long-term imprisonment.
