Driving Exam Overhaul: Maneuvering Test to Be Scrapped in Poland

Poland is set to eliminate the practical maneuvering portion of the standard Category B driving exam, aligning with European trends, next week.

Changes to the Examination System

Deputy Minister Stanisław Bukowiec will present details of the legislative project next week, according to Klimczak on RMF FM. The changes will be “deep,” impacting both the examination and training systems.

Elimination of the Maneuvering Test

Drivers taking the Category B driving test will no longer be required to complete a maneuvering course. The Infrastructure Minister stated that this type of exam is becoming obsolete in Europe and is considered a relic of the past.

The ministry has been analyzing this issue for some time and is now prepared with a draft law.

Revision of Exam Question Commission

The regulation will be submitted to the Legislative Work Schedule of the Council of Ministers, with the proposal sent next week. The commission responsible for preparing questions for the written driving exam will also undergo changes.

“Must Reflect Reality on the Road”

Klimczak announced a significant change to the commission’s structure, stating it will be “completely different” with increased state support for those preparing and verifying questions. The number of questions in the database will also be revised.

The driving exam, whether Category B or another, “must reflect the reality that exists on the road,” Klimczak emphasized.

Recent Changes to Driver Examination System

In recent years, particularly in 2025 and early 2026, several key changes have been made to Poland’s driver examination system. These include new age categories, modifications to maneuvering tasks, and changes to the exam question database.

A list of 18 specific situations where the examiner must immediately stop the test due to safety concerns has been introduced.
