Since February 28th, the U.S. embassy in Baghdad and other U.S. installations in Iraq, including military bases, have been repeatedly targeted, with Iranian-backed militias typically identified as the perpetrators.

U.S. Warning and Evacuation Appeal

The U.S. embassy in Baghdad issued a warning Thursday morning regarding potential attacks by pro-Iranian groups within the next 24-48 hours and reiterated its call for Americans to leave Iraq.

Attacks on Regional Infrastructure

Iran has been attacking Israel and countries in the Persian Gulf region for over a month in retaliation for U.S.-Israeli strikes, targeting both American bases and civilian infrastructure.

Retaliatory Strikes and Potential Targets

In Thursday’s retaliatory strikes, a bridge under construction on the route from Tehran to Karaj, west of the capital, was destroyed, resulting in two fatalities. Former U.S. President Donald Trump shared footage of the strike on his Truth Social platform, identifying it as Iran’s largest bridge.

The IRGC-affiliated Fars news agency published a list of potential targets for future Iranian attacks, including bridges in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan.
