Drone disrupts flights at Belgian airport; Germany sends military support

Air traffic suspended due to drone

Air traffic at Liège Airport in Belgium was suspended for about an hour on Friday, November 7, after a drone was spotted, according to “De Telegraaf.”

Kurt Verwilligen, a spokesperson for Skeyes, stated that a security period was implemented following the drone sighting, as per standard procedures for restricted airspace around airports.

Belgium strengthens airspace security

Belgium plans to enhance airspace surveillance, with the newly established National Air Security Center (NASC) in Beauvechain expected to be fully operational by January 1.

The Belgian Council of Ministers is set to discuss allocating 50 million euros for anti-drone systems. Until then, German forces will assess the situation and coordinate temporary deployment of drone detection and defense systems with Belgian military.

Drones disrupt multiple locations

Reports indicate drones appeared over airports in Brussels and Liège, as well as the Nuclear Research Center and the port of Antwerp on Thursday.

Previously, drones flew over military bases, including one housing U.S. nuclear weapons and F-16 fighters. Sweden also faced drone-related disruptions, with air traffic affected near Gothenburg.
