Denmark’s Aalborg Airport was closed on Sunday, November 16 at 10:10 PM after reports of drone activity, prompting police and aviation authorities to act swiftly.
Denmark: Airport Closed Due to Drones
On Sunday, Nov. 16, the airspace over Aalborg Airport was closed at roughly 10:10 p.m. after TV2 reported suspected drone activity in the terminal area.
Authorities Respond to Drone Suspicion
Naviair spokesperson Jan Elisassen said they had suspended take‑offs and landings in order to investigate. North Jutland Police also released a statement acknowledging sightings of one or more drones nearby and said they were intensively examining the area.
Drone Threat Subsides
More than an hour later, the airport reopened. Aalborg’s director‑general Kim Bermann explained that the space is closed automatically whenever uncontrolled activity is detected, and remains shut until deemed safe again.
Police Urge Public Reporting of Drones
Local police urged residents to report any drone sightings, stressing that “illegal drone flights are taken very seriously.”
Flight Disruptions Result from Closure
The shutdown affected at least two passenger services: an SAS flight from Copenhagen and a KLM flight from Amsterdam, the latter diverted to Billund. TV2 notes that similar closures happened three times in September for unknown drone activity.
