Incident at Warsaw-Modlin Airport
On February 18, 2026, at Warsaw-Modlin Airport (MPL), a 31-year-old Polish citizen became aggressive towards airport staff before his planned flight to Malta. Four individuals were causing problems in the departure terminal, and when Border Guard officers from the Special Intervention Team arrived, one of them refused to follow instructions and directed insults at the officers.
Detention and Breathalyzer Test
The man resisted the officers’ attempts to control the situation, leading to the use of handcuffs and restraining holds. He continued to insult the officers multiple times. Due to his apparent intoxication, he was subjected to a breathalyzer test, which showed 0.89 mg/l of alcohol in his system.
Formal Charges
After spending the night in a police detox center in Legionów and sobering up, the man was taken to the Warsaw-Modlin Border Guard facility where he was formally charged with insulting a public official during the performance of official duties (under Article 226 § 1 of the Criminal Code). If convicted, he could face a fine, restriction of liberty, or up to one year in prison.
