Initial Police Encounter
On Wednesday, May 6, before 6 p.m., patrol officers in Płońsk observed two men on Grunwaldzka Street who reacted nervously to seeing a police car. Officers noted one had a fresh, bleeding leg wound. During questioning, the 29-year-old man from Baboszewo municipality and a 26-year-old from Płock county both smelled of alcohol.
The 29-year-old repeatedly changed his account of how he got his wound, initially claiming an accident, then an attack, raising officers’ suspicions. A witness then approached, identifying the 29-year-old as the culprit behind property damage at a nearby food establishment.
Restaurant Disturbance
Officers proceeded to the scene with the identified men, where an employee confirmed the 29-year-old’s involvement. Police determined both men had entered the restaurant intoxicated, ordered food, and immediately behaved loudly and aggressively. They first declared card payment, then claimed their phone battery was dead, and finally offered cash, all while being vulgar and instigating quarrels, stating they had no money.
Escalation and Damage
The situation escalated when the 29-year-old behaved vulgarly and then exposed himself in the establishment. The employee ejected the aggressive men and locked the entrance door. The 29-year-old then began kicking the door, subsequently breaking a window. Damages were estimated at approximately 1000 zloty, and both men fled the scene.
Arrest and Charges
A sobriety test revealed the 29-year-old had approximately 2 per mille of alcohol in his system. He was detained and placed in police holding cells. After sobering up, he was formally charged with hooliganism-related property damage.
Legal Consequences
Under the penal code, damaging another’s property can result in 3 months to 5 years imprisonment. For hooliganism-related offenses, courts impose a stricter penalty, at least half more than the lower statutory minimum.
