Four-car collision near Warsaw on February 25th after drunk driver crashed into vehicles waiting at intersection.
Accident Details
On Wednesday, February 25th, after 9:00 PM, a four-car collision occurred at the intersection of Spisaka Street and Aleje Jerozolimskie in Opacza-Kolonia, on the border of Warsaw and Pruszków district. The driver who caused the incident was under the influence of alcohol, and emergency services and traffic disruptions lasted for several hours.
Sequence of Events
Report of the collision involving four cars came in on February 25th after 9:00 PM. According to Subcommissariat Monika Orlik of the Pruszków County Police, preliminary findings indicate that the driver of an Opel failed to adjust speed to road conditions and struck a Skoda waiting at the intersection.
The hit Skoda then collided with a Toyota in front of it. As a result, the third vehicle moved to an adjacent lane and hit a Peugeot bus. A fifth car, parked on the road in the opposite direction, was struck by debris from the Toyota’s body.
Driver’s Condition
Police reported that the Opel driver had “1.5 permille of alcohol in his exhaled breath.” He was taken to the hospital for additional testing of blood alcohol levels and testing for the presence of intoxicating substances. One person traveling in the Skoda was also hospitalized.
Aftermath
Traffic disruptions at the intersection lasted for several hours. Police completed their work at the scene only in the early morning hours.
