Drunk Driver Claims Post-Crash Alcohol Purchase, Surveillance Disproves Him

A 78-year-old driver in Sierpc, Poland, caused a collision and falsely claimed he consumed alcohol after the incident, but store surveillance footage revealed his lie.

Collision and Initial Claims

On Tuesday, March 17th, police in Sierpc responded to a traffic collision. Investigation revealed that the 78-year-old driver of a Renault failed to yield to a Nissan while turning left.

Both drivers underwent sobriety tests, with the Renault driver registering a blood alcohol content of just under 0.1%. He then asserted that he had purchased and consumed alcohol *after* the collision, at a nearby store.

Surveillance Footage Contradicts Driver

Police, skeptical of the driver’s account, obtained surveillance footage from the store. The footage showed the 78-year-old entering the store but making no purchase.

He left the store shortly after and returned to the scene of the collision, directly contradicting his claim of post-accident alcohol consumption.

Legal Consequences

Authorities suspended the driver’s license and detained him for questioning. He has been charged with driving under the influence and faces up to three years in prison, a driving ban, and a substantial fine.
