A drunk driver crashed a Citroen in Kobyłka, Poland, abandoning his injured passenger and fleeing into a nearby forest.
Dangerous Crash on Nadarzyńska Street
A serious accident occurred on Nadarzyńska Street (DW634) in Kobyłka, Wołomin County. Witnesses reported the Citroen driver was traveling at high speed, lost control on a curve, entered a ditch, rolled over, and collided with a property fence.
Driver Flees the Scene, Found Intoxicated
Preliminary reports indicate that after the crash, the 42-year-old driver left the injured passenger and fled the scene. He reportedly ran towards a nearby forest complex and hid in the bushes. Police, arriving at the scene, apprehended the man within minutes.
A breathalyzer test revealed a blood alcohol content of nearly 1.7 per mille.
Injuries and Emergency Response
Both the driver and the passenger of the Citroen were taken to the hospital. Two fire crews, two paramedic teams, and two police patrols worked at the scene. Traffic on Nadarzyńska Street was temporarily reduced to one lane during the operation.
Property Damage and Road Concerns
The crash also caused damage to a private property, specifically the fence. The property owner noted that this section of the road, recently rebuilt, is dangerous and poorly designed, making it easy to lose control on the curve.
Ongoing Road Construction Project
This section of DW634 is currently undergoing a major road construction project. The Mazowiecki Zarząd Dróg Wojewódzkich (Mazovian Provincial Road Administration) stated that the expansion from ul. Nadarzyńska to the overpass in Zielonka covers 4.5 km and includes the reconstruction of intersections, access roads, islands, bus bays, and stormwater drainage. According to MZDW, the roadworks on this stage are expected to last three years.
Police Investigation
Police are investigating the circumstances of the accident.
