After striking a police officer with his vehicle during a routine traffic stop in Mińsk Mazowiecki, a 38-year-old recidivist driver fled the scene and has now been remanded to three months’ custody.
The Incident and Pursuit
While patrolling in Stojadła, officers from the Mińsk Mazowiecki County Police stopped a Renault for a routine check. During the procedure, the 38-year-old driver accelerated abruptly, striking an officer with the vehicle’s side pillar and causing him to fall to the ground before speeding away.
Officers immediately initiated a pursuit, stopping the vehicle 200 meters later. Three men exited the car and fled on foot; police successfully apprehended two passengers in the backseat, who were found to have blood alcohol levels exceeding 3 and 2.5 per mille respectively.
Additional Arrests and Obstruction
Follow-up searches by additional units led to the apprehension of two other passengers, aged 30 and 39, both of whom were intoxicated. The driver, a 38-year-old man, was later located at his residence and found to be under the influence of alcohol.
During the arrest of the 39-year-old suspect, his 61-year-old mother and sister interfered with police operations. Both women were detained for obstructing officers in the line of duty.
Legal Consequences and Recidivism
The 38-year-old driver was found to be under a lifetime ban on driving. He was a repeat offender with a history of drunk driving convictions and prior incarceration for similar crimes. The court has ordered his pre-trial detention for three months.
A 35-year-old participant in the incident faces bail, police supervision, and a travel ban. The remaining individuals will also face legal proceedings for their actions.
