Drunk Driver Tried to Bribe Police with 10,000 Zlotys

A 42-year-old Grodzisk driver with almost a permil of alcohol attempted to bribe police officers to escape drunk driving charges.

Arrest for Drunk Driving

Quick reaction by witnesses and Grodzisk police led to the arrest of a drunk driver. Police officers from the Grodzisk Road Traffic Department were dispatched to Żabia Wola municipality following reports of a person consuming alcohol in a vehicle. Upon arrival, they observed an Opel leaving a school parking lot and immediately stopped the vehicle.

Attempted Bribery

The 42-year-old driver had almost a permil of alcohol in his system when tested. After being informed of his arrest for drunk driving, the man offered police officers 10,000 zlotys in exchange for ceasing further official proceedings. Police informed the driver that his promise constituted another criminal offense.

Legal Consequences

The suspect was taken to the Grodzisk police station while his vehicle was towed to a guarded parking lot. At the District Prosecutor’s Office in Żyrardów, the 42-year-old heard charges for offering public officials a financial benefit to induce them to violate legal provisions and for driving while intoxicated.

Preventive Measures Applied

The prosecutor decided to apply a preventive measure of supervision against the driver. The corruption crime he committed is punishable by up to 10 years in prison, in addition to penalties for the drunk driving offense.
