A 25-year-old Georgian citizen, perpetrator of a fatal crash, has been arrested and temporarily detained by court decision. The man was driving a vehicle while having a driving ban and over one permil of alcohol in his body.
Fatal Crash Details
The incident occurred on Sunday (February 15) at approximately 1:00 AM in the town of Chechły (Policzna commune, Zwoleński county). The driver of a Volkswagen passenger car for unknown reasons left the road and ended up in a ditch, then hit roadside trees. As a result of the accident, a 35-year-old Georgian citizen died at the scene. The other two people – a 43-year-old Ukrainian citizen and a 25-year-old Georgian citizen – were transported to the hospital.
Investigation Findings
Activities conducted by Zwoleń police under prosecutor supervision led to the determination that the 25-year-old Georgian citizen was behind the wheel, who initially claimed to be a passenger. The man had an active driving ban and was intoxicated – over one permil of alcohol was found in his body. The 25-year-old was arrested. On the request of the Prosecutor of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Zwolen, yesterday (February 19) the court applied a preventive measure of a three-month detention.
Legal Consequences
For causing a fatal traffic accident while intoxicated, he faces imprisonment of up to 20 years. He will also be held accountable for driving under the influence and for violating a court driving ban, which may result in additional criminal consequences, including a driving ban and a high fine.
