Instead of watching the road, a 36-year-old truck driver was looking at his phone. The man wasn’t bothered by being intoxicated either. He ended his drive in a roadside ditch after not noticing an island in the middle of the road on K62 in Kręgi. The driver has been detained, and his case will be decided by court.
Details of the Incident
On Monday (March 2) at 19:15, Wyszków police officers responded to a traffic accident involving a truck on K-62 road in Kręgi. The accident occurred where an island separated traffic lanes in the middle of the road. The driver focused on his mobile phone instead of the road, which led to him driving into the island forcefully, damaging information signs, and then careening into a roadside ditch, causing the vehicle to overturn.
Legal Consequences
A breathalyzer test revealed the driver had nearly 2.5 permille of alcohol in his system. The man was detained and, after sobering up, was brought before court in an accelerated procedure. The 36-year-old received a 6-month suspended prison sentence and a 5-year ban on driving motor vehicles. He must also pay 10,000 zloty to the Fund for Assistance to Victims and Post-Penitentiary Assistance.
