Duda Denies Zoll’s Claim on Nawrocki’s Judge Nominations

Polish President Andrzej Duda sharply rebuts former Constitutional Tribunal chief Prof. Andrzej Zoll’s assertion that former President‑elect Karol Nawrocki’s refusal to nominate 46 judges was unconstitutional.

Duda Denies Zoll’s Characterisation

In a social‑media post, Duda countered Professor Zoll’s claim that the president’s action was “unprecedented” and “illegal.” He insisted the decision is a presidential prerogative, not an administrative act, and a pure exercise of executive power.

Zoll Declares Presidential Decision Unconstitutional

In an interview Zoll said he did not find any legal basis for the president to reject nominations. “The president has no such competence,” he said, labeling the move a breach of the Constitution and an “absolute precedent.”

Nawrocki Rejects Judge Nominations

Former president‑elect Nawrocki announced he would not nominate 46 judges, citing the need to honour the constitutional order and Polish law. He warned against those “quibbling over the state’s constitutional‑political integrity” while calling for judgments “in line with the president’s nomination, the constitution, and Polish law.”
