A 66-year-old woman riding an electric scooter was hit by a car on Świderska Street near the Północny Bridge in Warsaw around 7:20 PM.
Collision Details
Around 7:20 PM, a 66-year-old woman riding an electric scooter was struck by a Suzuki vehicle on Świderska Street, near the Północny Bridge in Białołęka, Warsaw.
Preliminary investigations indicate the woman was descending from the Północny Bridge onto Świderska Street and entered a bicycle crossing when the collision occurred.
Medical Response and Police Investigation
Paramedics and a traffic police patrol were dispatched to the scene. The driver of the Suzuki was tested at the location.
The incident was classified as a collision, and the injured woman did not require hospitalization after medical assessment.
Recurring Safety Concerns
This is the latest in a series of dangerous incidents at this location in Białołęka. The bicycle and pedestrian crossing at the descent from the Maria Skłodowska-Curie Bridge has long been identified as problematic due to limited visibility and high speeds of vehicles exiting the bridge.
A citizen’s budget project, “Bezpieczny Przejazd Rowerowy” (Safe Bicycle Crossing), proposed improvements to safety at the intersection of the bridge descent and Świderska Street.
Speed and Visibility Issues
The primary issue arises from users of bicycles and scooters quickly gaining speed while descending the bridge, while drivers exiting the bridge have limited ability to detect them. This increases the risk of collisions or more serious accidents.
