Easter Truce Under Fire: Ukraine Reports 2299 Ceasefire Violations

Kyiv accuses Russian forces of 2299 violations since the start of the Easter ceasefire, while Moscow blames Ukraine for 1971 breaches.

Ukraine Reports Ceasefire Violations

The Ukrainian General Staff reported on Sunday morning that Russian forces had committed 2299 violations of the Easter truce since it came into effect. The statement was published on Facebook.

Ukraine provided a tally of ceasefire violations.

Details of Alleged Russian Attacks

According to the General Staff, from 4:00 PM Kyiv time on Saturday to 7:00 AM Kyiv time on Sunday, 28 assault operations, 479 artillery attacks, 747 attacks with kamikaze drones, and 1045 attacks with FPV drones were recorded. Ukrainian command simultaneously noted that no missile, guided bomb, or Shahed-type unmanned aerial vehicle attacks were recorded during this time.

Moscow Counters with Accusations Against Ukraine

The Russian Ministry of Defence presented a different account of events. According to Moscow, Ukrainian troops committed 1971 violations from the start of the ceasefire until 8:00 AM Moscow time on Sunday. This means both sides are mutually accusing each other of breaking the Easter truce, which, according to the Kremlin, is scheduled to last until the end of Sunday.

Duration of the Ceasefire and Potential Extension

The ceasefire announced by Vladimir Putin on Thursday is set to last for a total of 32 hours. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had previously signaled that Kyiv was ready to extend the ceasefire during the holidays.

Zelenskyy’s Proposal for Extended Truce

In a video released on Saturday, Zelenskyy informed that the Ukrainian side had transmitted a proposal to Russia for the Easter ceasefire to also be valid after the holidays. Before the publication of the latest tally, the Ukrainian president warned that the Ukrainian army would respond “symmetrically” to any violation of the ceasefire by Russia.
