European Commission Vice President Regnier emphasizes Poland must implement its approved SAFE defense plan without political interference.
SAFE Program Implementation
European Commission Vice President Regnier stated the Commission will not engage in political debates in Poland regarding the SAFE defense loan program. Instead, he emphasized focusing on implementing the 16 already approved plans, including Poland’s.
Poland’s Position
Poland is the largest beneficiary of the SAFE program, receiving 43.7 billion euros from the 150 billion euro pool. Regnier noted Poland is a pillar of the European Eastern Flank Guard program.
Approved Plan
Poland presented a “very solid national SAFE plan” that was approved by both the European Commission and Council in record time. Regnier stressed the need to implement this plan for Poland, Ukraine, and EU security.
Political Situation
By March 20, President Karol Nawrocki must decide on the bill implementing the EU SAFE program, which creates a fund in BGK to manage EU loan funds. Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced Nawrocki will veto the program and that a “plan B” for financing armaments is being prepared.
