Edward Linde-Lubaszenko was among Poland’s most recognizable character actors. He was associated with the Stary Theatre in Kraków, with a filmography of over 70 roles, more than 110 theater roles, and over 80 productions for Television Theatre.

Early Life and Education

Born on August 23, 1939, in Białystok. After high school, he began medical studies in Wrocław but ultimately chose acting, influenced by his involvement in the student theater “Kalambur.” In the 1960s, he passed the external acting exam and made his professional debut in the theater.

Theater Career

He began his stage career in 1964 at the Polish Theatre in Wrocław, later performing in theaters in Gorzów Wielkopolski and Opole, and again in Wrocław. A breakthrough for his stage position was his tenure at the Wrocławski Teatr Współczesny (1967–1973). From 1973, he was associated with the Stary National Theatre in Kraków, where he remained for many years.

Film and Television Roles

In film and television, he created dozens of distinctive roles, from dramas to popular cinema. He was widely associated with productions such as “Psy,” “Kroll,” and “Róża.” In 1993, he also appeared in Steven Spielberg’s “Schindler’s List.” In later years, he also appeared in soap operas like “M jak miłość” and “Barwy szczęścia.”

His repertoire also included roles significant for Polish cinema and television, such as his participation in Kazimierz Kutz’s film “Ktokolwiek wie…” and his portrayal of Dr. Bognar in the series “Układ krążenia,” noted as pivotal moments in his career.

Teaching and Honors

Linde-Lubaszenko was involved in artistic education, teaching for years at the Stanisław Wyspiański Academy of Theatre Arts in Kraków, including serving as dean of the Acting Department. In 1991, he received a professorial nomination from President Lech Wałęsa. He was awarded and honored for his artistic contributions, including the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Rebirth of Poland, the Gold Cross of Merit, and the “Gloria Artis” Medal for Merit to Culture, including the Gold Medal awarded in 2024.
