Egg Prices Rise Ahead of Easter

Polish egg prices have increased by up to 22 percent year-on-year in February 2026, impacting Easter preparations.

Egg Price Increases Before Easter

Egg prices are rising ahead of Easter, with increases ranging from 7.5 percent to 22.2 percent year-on-year, according to data from the Central Statistical Office (GUS).

Currently, consumers pay an average of 1.05 to 1.28 złoty per egg, compared to 0.93–1.17 złoty a year earlier.

Shifting Food Costs

GUS indicates that the increase in egg prices is just one element of changing food costs before Easter. Butter prices have decreased significantly – by over 30 percent – as have some meats, including pork and certain cold cuts.

However, ham, dill, and parsley roots may be more expensive than last year.

Poland’s Egg Production

Data shows that Poland remains one of the largest egg producers in the European Union. Production reached a record level of 12.4 billion eggs in 2024, compared to 8.8 billion in 2005.

After a decline to 9.3 billion eggs in 2021, production has clearly rebounded in recent years.

Poland’s Position in the EU

Poland ranks among the top egg producers in the EU, with only France, Spain, and Germany producing more. This means Polish production plays a significant role in the European market, even during periods of increased demand, such as Easter.

Regional Egg Consumption

GUS data also shows that egg consumption varies regionally. The highest monthly egg consumption per person is in the Lublin (13.88 eggs) and West Pomeranian (12.51 eggs) voivodeships, while the lowest is in the Warmian-Masurian (9.38 eggs) and Greater Poland (9.60 eggs) voivodeships.

Eggs Remain a Key Easter Product

Despite rising prices, eggs remain a key product in the Easter basket and a staple of many traditional dishes. (PAP)
